SUMMARY:Eric Gales @ The Odeum
DESCRIPTION:Eric Gales’ time is now. A rule-breaking\, genre-fusing force of nature\, hailed by giants like Joe Bonamassa\, Dave Navarro and Mark Tremonti as one of the best guitarists on the planet\, you’ll find the Memphis blues-rocker’s thumbprint on everything from his Grammy-nominated solo catalogue to the soundtrack of director Ryan Coogler’s smash-hit horror movie\, Sinners. \nYet there comes a time when every musician must look their past squarely in the eye. And while Gales’ latest release\, Tribute To LJK\, is a thrillingly modern record for the here-and-now\, it’s also a nod to his bloodline and the roots of his family tree. “This record has been a long time coming\,” he says of the speaker-rattling release co-produced by Bonamassa and Josh Smith. “I wanted it to be the ultimate tribute to my late brother\, Little Jimmy King\, to keep his memory alive and make sure people remember who he was and still is. All of these songs except one are his originals. I wanted to deliver his tunes to the world\, through my eyes. And I wanted it to be badass – and that’s exactly how it turned out.” \nThe blues is an ecosystem\, and it’s a measure of the respect commanded by both Eric – and his fabled older brother\, real name Manuel\, who sadly passed away in 2002 – that these ten explosive covers are delivered by an all-star cast with deep ties to the project. “Buddy Guy and Little Jimmy played together\, so he guests on the track ‘Somebody’\,” explains Gales. “Christone ‘Kingfish’ Ingram has gone on record to say my brother was a big influence\, so he’s on ‘Rockin’ Horse Ride’. They also both make pretty significant cameos in Sinners. So it all interweaves.”

SUMMARY:Tanya Donelly -This Hungry Life 20th Anniversary @ The Odeum
DESCRIPTION:Tanya Donelly first emerged in the indie-rock landscape in the early 1980s\, co-founding Throwing Muses (with stepsister Kristin Hersh)\, then later co-forming The Breeders\, before leading her own band Belly in the 1990s. With Belly she had her biggest commercial breakthrough\, notably with the single “Feed the Tree”\, earning critical acclaim and a Grammy nomination. \nAfter that success\, Tanya embarked on a solo career marked by lyrical richness\, melodic innovation\, and a shifting musical palette that embraces folk\, country\, ambient\, and indie pop textures. Her solo debut\, Lovesongs for Underdogs (1997)\, established her distinct songwriting voice outside of her band projects. \nThis Hungry Life (originally released in 2006) is a live album recorded in a unique intimate setting — a closed hotel in Bellows Falls\, Vermont — featuring largely new material\, plus a few covers and re-imagined tracks. The album reflects maturity in both voice and subject matter: themes of home\, family\, identity\, and the passage of time are woven through in her warm vocals and intimate performance style\, with the live setting giving the songs immediacy and connection. \nMarking the 20th anniversary of This Hungry Life offers a chance to revisit her work at this pivotal moment: affirming her legacy in indie rock; celebrating her evolution as an artist who has never stopped refining her craft; and presenting This Hungry Life not just as a document of a live show but as a milestone in her ongoing journey — both musically and personally.

SUMMARY:Los Lonely Boys @ The Odeum
DESCRIPTION:For Los Lonely Boys—brothers Henry\, Jojo\, and Ringo Garza—family has always been at the heart of their music. After years of touring\, the trio took a break in 2019 to focus on their families\, returning to the road in 2022 reinvigorated and even opening for The Who. \nHailing from San Angelo\, Texas\, the Garzas created their own bluesy “Texican rock & roll” sound and turned it into a global sensation. Their breakthrough came when Willie Nelson’s nephew discovered their demo; Willie soon booked them for Farm Aid and recorded with them at his studio. Their 2003 debut album\, Los Lonely Boys\, re-released by Epic\, featured the No. 1 hit “Heaven\,” which earned them a Grammy and spent 76 weeks on the Billboard Top 200\, selling over two million copies. \nThey’ve collaborated with legends like Carlos Santana and Willie Nelson\, played iconic venues\, and supported global causes. Their journey\, chronicled in the documentary Cottonfields and Crossroads\, has seen both triumph and hardship—most notably Henry’s serious stage accident in 2013\, which led the band to refocus on what matters most: family and music. \nNow back in stride\, Los Lonely Boys continue to write\, record\, and tour with renewed passion. Their 2024 release\, Resurrection (BMG)\, blends their signature Texican rock & roll with elements of soul and roots music\, earning critical acclaim and energizing live audiences. More than two decades after their debut\, they remain a vital force in music\, proving their story is still unfolding.

SUMMARY:Steve Earle @ The Odeum
DESCRIPTION:Steve Earle is one of the most acclaimed singer-songwriters of his generation. A protege of legendary songwriters Townes Van Zandt and Guy Clark\, he quickly became a master storyteller in his own right\, with his songs being recorded by Johnny Cash\, Waylon Jennings\, Joan Baez\, Emmylou Harris\, The Pretenders\, and countless others. 1986 saw the release of his record\, Guitar Town\, which shot to number one on the country charts and is now regarded as a classic of the Americana genre. Subsequent releases like The Revolution Starts…Now (2004)\, Washington Square Serenade (2007)\, and TOWNES (2009) received consecutive GRAMMY® Awards. \nRestlessly creative across artistic disciplines\, Earle has published both a novel and collection of short stories; produced albums for other artists such as Joan Baez and Lucinda Williams\, and acted in films\, television (including David Simon’s acclaimed The Wire)\, and on the stage. In 2009\, Earle appeared in the off-Broadway play Samara\, for which he also wrote a score that The New York Times described as “exquisitely subliminal.” Earle wrote music for and appeared in Coal Country\, a riveting Public Theater play that dives into the most-deadly mining disaster in U.S. history\, for which he was nominated for a Drama Desk Award. Mr. Earle was recently inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
